So, we are being taught stuff from the scratch!! ๐Ÿ˜€ Yesterday, I had my first corporate presentation on Application Understanding!! To my surprise, it went well and my pair, Arshad, also spoke well!! ๐Ÿ˜€ The presentation part for our batch dragged on for hours and ours was the second last group! We were taught HTML (I was feeling sleepy as the tech lead was teaching the baby basics of HTML). Don’t worry!! Just be confident and give in some effort! ๐Ÿ˜€

Today, we went to Kovalam beach! ๐Ÿ˜€ It rained a lot from last night!! It just rained heavily now and then there was flooding!! We had lunch in some restaurant in East Fort and then took a bus to Kovalam Beach! The sea, waves and the sun were just awesome! I am really short of the words which would describe them better!! It was 6pm and the sun was just about to set! The sunset yellow sky and it’s reflection on the sea were mesmerizing! The wind was cool and we stood in the sand while the waves washed our feet! We sat on the rocks until it was totally dark! Since it’s the 31st of December, I thought that people will have some kinda beach party but all we saw were policemen patrolling the beach and locals saying “danger” coz of the possibility of anti-socials roaming around in secluded places! ๐Ÿ˜

Now it’s almost 12!! ๐Ÿ˜€ A Happy New Year to everyone!!! May the new year bring in lots of happiness and prosperity!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

This is my third day in TCS! ๐Ÿ˜€ It is really a dream to think that we are no more in college but in a top-class organization! ๐Ÿ˜€ It’s difficult to break out of that shell, but with a little time and grooming, we’llย realizeย ย that some things need to be changed!! Our leads keep reminding us that we are no more in college but the commotion that goes on actually makes the training center no less than a college!! ๐Ÿ˜€ But it’s serious stuff!!

My shift was from 2pm to 9pm! Iย realizedย that the timings are actually better than it seems!! You’ll never get to know how time flies away! After you’re done, you can always have dinner, chat a little, do a bit of work and go to bed! ๐Ÿ˜€

So, at first we had our Biz. Skills Class!! I hope you all know what that is!! There were pieces of paper with a value written on each of them! You have to pick up one which is of utmost importance to you and then get a partner for yourself! Get to know each other in 5 minutes and why the other person has chosen that particular value!! ย The interesting part is that you have to describe yourself with an adjective starting with your name’s first alphabet! ๐Ÿ˜€ Both of you will be asked to introduce each other! I had chosen “Forgiveness” ๐Ÿ˜€

After that, we had our first technical intro class and a presentation on Project Delivery. This is where you’ll get to know what modules you’ll have to learn and implement! ๐Ÿ™‚ Remember, the evaluation and review will be totally based on your monitoring, performance, teamwork, etiquette etc. Make sure you live up to TCS’s values! So if you are from CSE/IT stream and your pair is a non-CSE, neglecting his/her understanding of fundamental concepts or performance will cost you your ILP rating!! Teamwork, individual work and sharing! You gotta do em all the right way! ๐Ÿ˜›

We had another Biz. skills session in which we were taught about the right attitude, the importance ofย dressingย well, our true potential and a lot more!! Later, we were shown a presentation on what TCS’s CEO, N. Chandrasekaran expects from trainees! We were divided in to 8 groups and we had to choose one of those eight expectations and make a poster! ๐Ÿ˜€ Creative, eh?? You can always Google! ๐Ÿ˜›

It was finally 7:15!! This was our last slot!! All our labs are named after spices! So, this time it was Cardamom! ๐Ÿ˜€ We were shown how to set an ideal password for Ultimatix and email creation! ๐Ÿ˜€

That’s it for today!! I’m happy that I’m with my friends in TCS!! ๐Ÿ˜€

Last night, I slept peacefully! Whew!! The documentation is finally over! Today was a much more important day! We had our PAT exam, a presentation on “Why TCS?”, a lecture on “Information Security”, a presentation on DOs and DON’Ts in the office and finally our posting and stream allocation! ๐Ÿ™‚

It was another longggggg day from 10:30 am to 10:30 pm!! Today, I actually came to know that PAT exam doesn’t determine anything ๐Ÿ˜€ Your stream allocation is random and your posting preference depends on theย availability!! I got Bangalore even though it was my second preference!! PAT was important before. Now it is just an exam. Still, you shouldn’t neglect studying before ILP because it can be tough to those who are ย unaware of the subjects being taught. ย

Anyway, PAT doesn’t prove anything…that’s a relief! ๐Ÿ˜€

ABOUT PAT:ย  Just a technical pre-diagnostics test to know how much technically strong you are. You don’t need to answer everything religiously or study industriously the night before. ย Just relax!

We were shown to one of the labs where we were given individual systems, login id and password. Don’t try to cheat or discuss as you’ll be disqualified! :O

We got to know about the importance of information security today!! ๐Ÿ˜€ It’s all about how you can protect top secret information from attackers by following security policies and most of all, as an employee of the company, keep your client’s and organization’s information, a confidential matter! That means, put a tape on your mouth even if your best friend asks you about it! ๐Ÿ˜› It could risk you your job and it could risk the company billions of dollars and the trust of the client! ๐Ÿ™‚ Okay, I don’t intend on giving a class on it!! ๐Ÿ˜€

After that, we were taken through all the rules to be followed in the office! You get free tea and coffee ๐Ÿ˜€ just don’t chew gum, crowd near the canteen, throw stuff here and there, take photographs and most of all, don’t chew gums! ๐Ÿ˜ Every moment, I get toย realizeย that this is my job and not college!!

I got JAVA as my stream and I am quite happy about it! ๐Ÿ˜€ It’s just that the second shift from 2pm-9pm is a bit odd but you gotta be flexible! ๐Ÿ˜›

We got our schedules for the next day and my shift starts from tomorrow! That means, full learning starts from day 3!! ๐Ÿ˜€

It’s here!!! It’s finally here!!! ๐Ÿ˜€ As I mentioned in the previous post, it was very difficult to sleep with a dozen thoughts in our minds. Usually I wake up late in the morning, but today, I woke up at 4:50 am!! That’s very surprising!! ๐Ÿ˜€

I had to wait for my friends, so couldn’t have breakfast at all ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I just had a few biscuits! There was a longgggggggggg queue in front of TCS Peepul Park already. It was so sunny and I was having a severe headache ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Our bags were scanned for pen drives and CDs. Then there was a even longer queue. We were given our batches, employee ID, a file, a notepad and a pen and instructed to sit in the auditorium! We were given lectures after lectures by HRs, Senior Management about the company, values, ILP, misconceptions about ILP, the 60 days curriculum, how we’ll be evaluated, etc. It is important that you visit the company’s site at least once before joining!

We were enlightened about the PAT test to be held the next day. I would like to say that my “senior” colleague friends have told me that PAT is just a formality nowadays, but you should not miss out ASPIRE, as it will be of great help if you are from a non-CSE/IT stream. So, we were told that ASPIRE participation and PAT will determine our streams and posting. Don’t worry!! They can’t fix the streams and posting preferences in just a few hours! ๐Ÿ˜› They’re all predefined. Just don’t miss out on ASPIRE!

The Documentation process was slow and tedious. I missed out on my lunch just because my name was called late! ๐Ÿ˜ก You have to be there on time or you’ll have to miss that session in some cases! So be punctual.

After lunch, the HDFC bank people came to guide us through the account opening process. We were given a kit consisting of a cheque book, ATM card and a form. Make sure you bring extra copies of your PAN Card and photos. Finally we were given our TCS ID cards! ๐Ÿ˜€ Yay! We are now formally employees!! ๐Ÿ˜€ The funniest part is that we keptย laughing at how our photos were edited!! LOL!! ๐Ÿ˜€

We roamed about and had coffee while the others were getting their IDs. Later, we had a “stress management” class by Miss Nisha ๐Ÿ˜€ I’ve heard of her in previous Trivandrum ILP stories. We discussed about causes of stress, managing stress, smoking, drinking and usage of drugs etc.

Finally, it was 6pm! We were like, “please let us go now!!!!!!! :(” ย  hehehe ๐Ÿ˜€ We were instructed to call everyone by their names. No Sir and no Ma’am! ๐Ÿ™‚ Sounds weird but I guess, we have to get used to it! ๐Ÿ˜› We got to know our schedules for the next day. 10:30 am to 9 pm ๐Ÿ˜ Oh God!! Are we gonna become mad or are we gonna become mad? ๐Ÿ˜€
